Hi, folks. Great to have you back for another year. I’m always intrigued to hear how other folks interpret one of my favorite shows so I’m looking forward to more fun commentary.

Dylan, not to spoil a perfect rant, but I’m holding out hope that Ilia isn’t sidelined. Her presence in the opening scene was likely pretty expensive, and additional scenes from that point on are of marginal cost.

For example, RoosterTeeth just spent a lot of time re-designing her 3-D character model to give her some cool new clothes. Why do that for a two-minute bit?

More importantly, they brought back actress Cheramie Leigh to voice Ilia for the opening episode. In case you don’t know, Cheramie Leigh is a bit of a superstar in the anime voice-over world. She has many credits to her name. She notably voiced Lucy, one of the main characters of the very popular Fairy Tail anime.

Unlike Sun and Neptune, who are voiced by RoosterTeeth employees, Ms. Leigh would certainly charge decent money to perform. Once she’s in the studio, it’s doesn’t cost much more to do an entire season than it does to do just a few lines. Again, why spend the money if you’re putting the character in mothballs? They didn’t do it for Blake’s parents.

Based on the Sienna Khan fiasco, however, I may prove to be very wrong.

    Thanks again!

Hey Jon, thanks for the comments! I do agree with the ‘giving Ilia a new model costs money’ thought and I think I expressed that on pod. That’s the only thing that gives me pause that she’ll be out for the entire season. Cherami Leigh is fantastic as Ilia, best VA on the show IMO, but if she’s under contract I’m not sure having her record for just one episode is a big deal. That kinda thing is gonna have to happen sometimes in a show like this and Ilia had to be in this episode in some capacity. She didn’t have to have a new outfit though so that part is definitely interesting. I certainly hope she’s back in a few episodes!!

I retract ” all the moaning”, that’s over the top and apologise. I’ll try and phrase my point better then leave the topic. I’ll do your disclaimer from the top of the podcast I really did enjoy the pod, it made my commute (well a couple of trips and preparing dinner because it was so long) quite enjoyable.

In my experience of the pods the interactions of Blake and Sun were coloured by an anticipation of Black Sun’s likelihood, rather than for what was there – Oh Miles and Kerry are going to …

    • Dylan Hysen says:

Thanks! Yeah to their credit it all turned out better then we thought it would with Blake and sun. Don’t think the fears were unfounded, similar ones still remain with rose garden..

Enjoyed the podcast, enjoyed the episode, I even enjoyed the rants (mostly). The exposition is, as always, so ham fisted that it’s funny – we hav e a relic that can do what, silver eyes, Salem, we have a source of knowledge right there and no-one asks pertinent questions.

OTOH, I’m all for you ripping things that have happened, I just dislike when you anticipate crap that nearly never happens. All the moaning about Sun and Blake in previous years and they were great together and ended the interlude together well. I like they have interesting people stashed around the place we can meet again. I’m sure we’ll be back to Vale and to Vacuo sometime and they will be stocked with interesting characters already.

    Predictions,
Cinder returns to Vale to get access to the relic she should be able to unlock from the vault ( hence Neo encounter) as a play to have something for Salem so she won’t end her tenure.

The purple gang in the trailer are smugglers as they need to pass the blockade into Atlas.

Peter there’s a nicer way to say this: “OTOH, I’m all for you ripping things that have happened, I just dislike when you anticipate crap that nearly never happens. All the moaning about Sun and Blake in previous years..” Please consider trying phrase better. And I don’t even agree with the point: just because they got better at writing Blake and Sun, doesn’t mean their interactions the last two seasons weren’t bad. Which you can disagree with or not, but it’s valid to have disliked them in V4 or V5.

Thanks for the comments, good stuff otherwise.
