When Qrow says he met the girls’ parents, he’s talking about Taiyang and Summer: Yang isn’t supposed to know that Raven is her biological mother. She mentioned in the storybook episode that she was raised by Summer, and only figured out it later.

I should’ve listened to the whole episode…
Yatsuhashi was eliminated in the Steam section of the arena; you can actually see that he’s nowhere near trees in the shot of the stadium announcement that Coco reacts to.
It’s probably Neo’s illusion semblance, like when she covered Torchwick’s escape in season 2, and turned her eyes green to hide in the tourney.
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that most of the weirdness of this fight was Neo’s interference, since the oddness was mostly about where exactly Emerald and Mercury are or what exactly they’re doing at any given point.
