  1. Zane says:

I just realized the purpose of this season for Weiss, Blake and Yang. They’re finding the answers to Ooblecks questions!

Near the end of Volume 2 team RWBY was woth Professor Oobleck in Mountain Glenn. Here he took the time to ask Weiss, Blake and Yang about their goals and why they wanted to be a huntress. Each had a shallow goal. Weiss wanted to save her family name, Blake wanted to stop the injustices in the world and Yang was just a thrill seeker. Ruby was the only one Oobleck did not queation as her answer would already be satisfactory. Ruby just wants to help people and the best way to do that was as a huntress.

The other three are now at their lowest and, at least we assume with Blake, have returned to their parents. In essence, this is them reseting and giving them a chance to breathe and think about what to do next. Do they still have the motivation to be a huntress? Is giving up too appealing of an option for them to continue? And most importantly it gives them time to think or discover, individually, “How am I going to do this”.

    • Dylan Hysen says:

Awesome analysis! I love that Oobleck scene and would love for this show to get introspective with Weiss Yang and Blake.

Speaking of Avatar influences did anyone get the warriors wolftail joke? Y’know Sokka and Katara “it would let them know your fun and perky”.

    • Dylan Hysen says:

Yeah it definitely could be an ATLA reference! Let’s do more Avatar references pls, especially since this show is so influenced by it.

  3. Peter Coghill says:

Well I thought we’d get Weiss this episode after the tease but I have no idea where they are going this time.

I do expect to see another character’s view of the character trailer in RNGRs journey. To be fair with all the Jaune screen time it is Ruby’s mission to Haven and she shook the “major’s” hand.

Nora and Ren seem to be setting up for a bandit subplot. Ren taking charge with his let the dead bury the dead attitude was interesting. I think there is enough in the two of them of buried emotions that it could work very well.

Having watched all the rest as movies it is really frustrating to be back to the 14 minutes of content format – it really highlights the weaknesses in plot as before you just let it sweep past. A 22 minute Korra episode had so much happen-which is why I loved their shorthand story telling.

You’d think 4 volumes is a long time for a story but this really does feel like the beginning still so maybe they do have a twenty volume plot.

We may not get a full Rwby reunion this volume but I at least expect to see the partners pair up again, even if it is at opposite ends of the world. RW in haven and BY somewhere in Vale.

    • Dylan Hysen says:

Yeah I agree this show works better in movie-form. A lot of the narrative weaknesses aren’t as important if it’s all at once. And I’d be fine with a RW BY split.. I guess I could see them doing it.

Well at the very least Jaune’s 7 sisters backstory make me some what interested in seeing home life. I am just a sucker for the 1 brother multiple sisters setup, I love those slice of life anime that has that with the main character.

But this is not a slice of anime isn’t it. I thought Weiss’ dad was going to set up in an arrange marriage, I have seen many times in these types of families.

I don’t know about Rwby and Jaune, if it makes you feel better, I see it more of a sibling like relationship.

Speaking of which, I want to meet Jaune’s sisters, I know more Jaune, but Jaune’s sisters are not Jaune, they are their own characters.

    • Dylan Hysen says:

Yeah meeting Jaune’s sisters could be cool, that might be good way to develop Jaune more, as long as they don’t do the feminine-cause-sisters nonsense.
