About that farmer boy… Really, really far-fetched but what if Ruby and farmer boy ended up getting shipped. I mean with his connections to the villains maybe… also I’m really trying to deny the fact that Jaune and Ruby could date because as a wise Ruby once said, “Ew, gross”
Yes def gross. I guess I’d prefer it to Jaune and Ruby but that’s not saying much!
Caught up.
I have a couple of points and mild disagreements.
1. The Ruby laughing scene was great, mostly because I was afraid the tone would go too serious that was my biggest worry. And she hasn’t buckled yet – she’s still has her childish self even with the bit of melancholy over Weiss where she drops out of the conversation.
2. I thought it was more likely a sister for Blake
3. The Weiss scene was a hand off to the next episode, in my opinion, the abrupt cutoff sort of hinted that it would pick up there next.
4. I expect to see the other three girls prominently in the next episode as a follow up to this ala Korra S4 the other way around
Thx for listening! We’ll see tomorrow on the next episode stuff, I don’t think that weiss scene was really framed in order to be part 1 but it could be I guess. I’d be shocked if >50% of next episode was Weiss Blake Yang. Consensus on the female in Blake scene in intro is mom but we don’t know for sure. And good point, I definitely like that Ruby is still Ruby even with the darker tone of the show, maybe that was the point of the laughing scene.
You people really suck at this. It’s entertainment, stop over thinking the whole thing, it will make sense the more you see.
Hi Sherry, thanks for taking the time out of your day to comment! This podcast’s purpose is to be critical towards animated shows and movies, a medium we don’t think is analyzed from a critical lens to a large enough extent. Given that this is the purpose of this site and podcast, we will of course treat RWBY the same way and I think an “it’s entertainment, don’t overthink it” viewpoint is doing the show a large disservice. Have a nice day!
Since I know you were worried about going back to reviewing RWBY because of people complaining about your critical nature, I figure now would be a good time to remind you that there are people who really appreciate and enjoy your and your co-hosts’ thoughts on the subject, myself included ^_^
Thanks! Yeah I definitely know there are people who like our RWBY coverage, just hard to keep in mind when there are multiple negative comments like this one. Overall feedback for our podcast on ep1 has been positive though, youtube comments are mostly good.
Some people find entertainment in analyzing and criticizing things. If you don’t find that entertaining then you probably don’t have much to gain from this website.
Just as I think Cinder is going to turn to our side or at least become a anti hero eventually, I just as much think Emerald is going to die and that is going to contribute to Cinder’s character development.
No Emerald dying pls
Sorry but some character exist to die in order to progress another character, Emerald feels like that to me, but you never know, maybe they will go against the trope. Iroh felt like that to me, even more so because he was old, but he survived and Zuko was able to have his development without him dying, you never know. But something bad is going to happen to Emerald and she and Cinder are going to separated.
But not a good sign that she is not in the new intro.
Between this and Ladybug, you guys obviously fans of action shows staring female characters, do you like any magical girls animes, a good magical girl series is something you might like.
If I can make some recommendation, there is Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Sailor Moon Crystal comes to mind.
Yeah definitely into that type. I’m a big fan of Madoka, one of my favorite animes ever. I should probably watch Sailor Moon at some point.
Well if you want to get into Sailor Moon and knowing you thirst for plot stuff, I recommend Sailor Moon Crystal over the original 90’s anime. The original anime is 200 episodes with a lot of monster of the week episodes with few plot episodes in between and at the end of each season.
Crystal is still ongoing, only 39 episodes so far, if you catch up, you could season 4 if and when that happens. I wish I told you sooner, you could have covered season 3 which is great, though season 3 has not been dubbed, maybe you can over the dub when it comes, the dubs have been released week to week on Hulu in the past.
Not saying the original anime doesn’t have good points, only the original anime had KunzitexZoisite though in my opinion it was very toxic, and a lot more redeem villains.
When it comes to series with heroine, the way I want it, the male villains whose sole purposes for the girls to get their butts, while the female villains have some depth.
So I am kind of new to this series, so please excuse me if this question sounds stupid. Do you think Rwby and Cinder have some kind of weird connection. I don’t know how many of you seen Kill la Kill, but there was this twist with main hero and the first main villain. I am not saying that is the case, but hmm you never know.
There could be I guess. Nothing really so far in the series to support it but that seems like the type of archetypal twist they could do, if Cinder and Ruby are both maidens at some point and are connected.
For the record you have seen Kill la Kill, so you know what I am talking about? I don’t want to spoil anything for you or anyone reading the comments.
Have not seen.
You would probably hate it. The main heroine is highly sexualized and suffers worse than Yang did last season (don’t wanna say how) without really exploring the trauma in any tactful way. Admittedly, I was able to look past those things for the sake of the comedy, action, and my OTP (which is canon and nobody can tell me otherwise), but considering you are more feminist than me, I’m not sure if you could. (I am trying to be more feminist, but I just have a hard time leaving the dumpster of problematic faves).
Ranger is a shade of green: http://www.skdtac.com/v/vspfiles/photos/EAG.567-7.jpg
I agree that the new villains are lame, Jaune is annoying, and there are already too many characters so we don’t need more, and removing WBY was a bad idea.
I’m kinda neutral to Arkos.
I’m also worried about Jaune becoming the main character for the same reasons as you. Kinda hoping he’s the next to get the axe.
#whiteroseconfirmed
I prefer the new song over Volume 3’s intro. Also agree with pushing Sun off the boat. He really hasn’t added anything to the plot so far. He’s basically a less annoying yet somehow less useful Jaune.
I’m not too excited about the season as a whole. It’s going to be the last chance I give this season.
Thx for the comments. Ranger shade of green seems like a stretch for a color but nice find lol. Personally I’m not any sort of close to abandoning the show, still hopeful and I think even if RWBY keeps up the quality of this episode, which isn’t a high mark, it’s still very watchable for me. The big concern would be a Jaune MC show, but even if they make him one of the leads and we all hate it I doubt he’d be THE lead… like, I still have some faith they won’t screw it up that much long term I guess.
I only knew about the ranger green thing thanks to tv tropes, so it wasn’t my find. As for me abandoning the series, it’s just that every volume so far I look back and say to myself “this was not written well.” It’s not terrible either, it’s just kinda mediocre. Nothing really makes it stand out besides being an internet series, so I’m really questioning why I should keep coming back to it, you know?
Yeah I definitely agree the show has never been written well. At least for me, the reason to keep watching is the characters who I love a lot. Also the aesthetic of the show is still appealing to me. So like, even if she doesn’t get enough lines, I still get to see Ruby be awesome most episodes, and that’s good enough for me. Ideally the writing would improve too.. but we’ll see about that.
I can respect that, and if the series was shorter I’d consider that to be enough as well (I sat through all of Code Geass R2 for those reasons despite being bugged by the increasingly nonsensical plot), but it’s been 3 years, and they plan to make like 20 seasons or something like that, so I need something more substantial.
