Total Drama Review Week 26: Total Drama Drama Drama Drama Island
By: Justin Cummings
Welcome to the first of the two reunion specials. All I have to say is, what just happened? As much as I love setting up season two, it’s a darn shame they took the money from Owen. This episode basically makes the last twenty-six episodes completely worthless. All of the time, blood, sweat, tears, and heart that went into the season is gone. I know I definitely felt slighted then, and now I still feel a bit of the same way. What I have learned to appreciate more, is Chris.
Chris’s scheme, from the very beginning, was amazing. Chris knew, from the moment they began season one, that whoever won would have the chance to give up their money for a bigger shot, and what sixteen year old wouldn’t take that chance? Then, having the season two clause ready to go, the whole thing was brilliant, and shows that Chris really knows what he’s doing. He is finally growing as a character, and starting to take his spot as franchise antagonist.
The other big thing the episode did, besides setting up next season, is setting up new character arcs for many characters. We finally, and I do mean finally, get some substance for Justin, one of my all time favorites, and Izzy gets time to shine as well, with Harold, Beth, Lindsey, Duncan, Courtney, Noah and more all showing new sides. It’s the growth in this episode that helps make season two my favorite.
It’s been great getting to go back through this season, but starting next week, we’ll be looking at my favorite season of animation ever. I’m really excited, and thanks to everyone for sticking with me over the last half a year. I give this episode a 7.5/10, and I’ll see you all next week for “Monster Cash.”
